Create Native Canvas Log-in
While you will normally be able to log in to Canvas using your Net ID, there may be times when the NetID system is unavailable and you may need to log in with a 'native' Canvas account. This account will use your Rutgers Email Address, but a different password. If NetID Central Authentication is unavailable, you can create a native Canvas account by re-setting your password. The steps are as follows:
On the Canvas Email Login, click on the 'Forgot password' link below the login fields.
Enter your Net ID or Rutgers Email address into the Login ID field. Click Request Password.
To confirm you own the account, an email will be sent to your Rutgers email address (from email@example.com). Please check your Spam/Junk folder to be sure you catch it; the email subject is "Forgot Password: Canvas". Click on the "Update your notification settings" link at the bottom of the email and you will be brought to a page asking you to enter a new password, as shown below.
After you have changed your password, you will be brought back to the Canvas Login Page. You can now Click on Email Login and use your email and new password to access your account.
Please note that this process will only work when the Central Authentication System is disabled. If you attempt this process while CAS is up, the re-set link will simply take you back to the Canvas log-in page rather than to the password re-set page.
