The Division of Continuing Studies is pleased to announce the launch of Rutgers Video Portal, an on-campus subscription service which allows members of the Rutgers Community a way to stream video content on a departmental website, inserted into Pearson eCollege online courses, or easily viewable on our portal page.
Like other YouTube-style sites, you decide the content to be presented, but unlike commercial providers, faculty contributors can decide the amount of materials to upload, and length of time it remains viewable. Downloading and sharing are options which can be activated at your discretion. Once embedded, the video stands alone in
it’s own customizable player, and best of all, you do not have to share the viewing page surrounded by advertising, or a collection of unrelated videos that can distract students from the information you would like to display. On the Portal, a subscriber has complete control of access to your streams, which can be significant factor in light of Fair Use and Intellectual Property considerations.
Continuing Studies observes copyright considerations for all materials uploaded and streamed through our video
portal. As set forth by Rutgers University Counsel and Rutgers Libraries.
Rutgers Libraries have extensive information about copyright guidelines in general, and how they apply to distance learning courses on their website.
As part of the service, the staff at the Educational Media and Technology group will transfer your materials from its current format, to a high quality video stream. We will then upload the video to our partnering content delivery network, with a guarantee of 99.9% reliability.
There is no charge for this service to faculty who use the Pearson eCollege platform for their online courses. For other faculty, or individual units wishing to embed videostreams on a specific website, accounts start at $50/month. Convenient billing and payment options, such as automatic journal entries and IPO’s are available to all Rutgers units.
